In the midst of 2020’s doom and gloom, the traditions of the holidays are a welcome distraction. At the White House, First Lady Melania Trump has carried on the tradition of Christmas decorating for visitors and Americans all over the country to enjoy through photos and videos.
In 1961, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy began the tradition of choosing a theme for the White House décor when she chose a Nutcracker Suite motif. This year, Mrs. Trump selected the theme “America the Beautiful.” The First Lady offered a preview of the decorations on her Twitter page.
In the Blue Room of the White House, the Gold Star Family Tree is in its usual spot, honoring fallen soldiers with their names on ribbons. In the Red Room, a tree honors the healthcare heroes fighting the coronavirus pandemic and in the library, decorations honor the 19th amendment’s passage 100 years ago. The U.S. Marine Band provides music throughout the tour of the White House décor.
Melania Trump’s impeccable taste is on full display through her chosen decorations, with each meaningful detail carefully selected. To see a video of the décor, visit the White House’s website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/christmas/
