Democrat Congressman Detained Outside US Capitol
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was arrested outside the US Capitol building on Thursday during an election reform protest.
Hunger strikers in Washington formed a barrier outside the US Capitol after refusing to eat until Democrats approve election reform legislation. Capitol Police arrested 23 demonstrators after three warnings.
Response from Bowman
“Today, Congressman Jamaal Bowman participated in a nonviolent direct action for voting rights at the North Barricade of the United States Capitol Building and was detained by the United States Capitol Police,” said Marcus Frias, Bowman’s director of communications.
The bill being protested was blocked from passage on Wednesday night, with Democrat Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin putting the nails in its coffin.
