Sen. Ted Cruz Hints At 2024 Campaign – If Trump Does Not Run
Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz hinted this week that he would run for president in 2024 if former President Donald Trump doesn’t.
Trump or Cruz?
Cruz acknowledged that he aspires to the presidency in an interview with NBC News, but said he would not run against Trump if the former president ran.
“The race in ’24 will very much hinge on whatever President Trump decides to do. President Trump is going to make his decision whether or not he runs, or nobody else is going to make that decision for him. And I expect that everyone else will react accordingly when he does make that decision,” Cruz said.
Strong Showing in 2016
Cruz, now 51, made a solid run for the nomination in 2016, eventually finishing second in the primaries to Trump. He’s been a member of the US Senate since 2013.
Cruz’s popularity has ebbed and flowed in recent years, but he has remained loyal to Trump. A graduate of both Princeton and Harvard, he has a reputation as an outstanding debater.
