Corporations Supporting “Burn Down This System”
Amazon, Microsoft, Nabisco, Gatorade, the Atlantic, and Warner Records are just a few of America’s largest corporations who have given money to Black Lives Matter (BLM). The sentiment, that black lives matter and that the rights and safety of African Americans should be protected, is a noble one. The BLM organization, on the other hand, has strong socialist leanings and seeks to undo the current American, democratic, and capitalist system, as well as the nuclear family. And if this change does not come by peaceful means, the president of Greater New York BLM, Comrade Newsome, said “We will burn down this system.”
Three leading members of BLM are Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. Cullors told the press that she and Garza are trained Marxists. Tometi visited Venezuela’s Marxist dictator Nicolás Maduro. Afterwards, she wrote, “In these last 17 years, we have witnessed the Bolivarian Revolution champion participatory democracy and construct a fair, transparent election system recognized as among the best in the world.” Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela is so extreme that The Atlantic referred to the situation as “the Erie endgame of modern politics.” The once-prosperous country has been driven to hunger, hyperinflation, and chaos through years of Marxism, Socialism, and liberalism.
New York BLM leader Newsome does not condemn the use of violence. He said, “when people get aggressive and they escalate their protests, cops get fired, Republican politicians talking about police reform.” He followed with “I don’t condone nor do I condemn rioting.” Are these the values that corporations like Airbnb and Spanx were funding when they donated to BLM?
Newsome added, “I just want black liberation and black sovereignty. By any means necessary.” Sovereignty, by definition, means independent of the power of the United States government. And “by any means necessary” sounds quite ominous, including violence. In spite of these inflammatory statements, numerous US corporations expressed their support for BLM, including McDonalds, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Shake Shack, and Ben and Jerry’s.
The Dismantling of the American System
Does Amazon want a complete overhaul of the American system “by any means necessary?” This is what they are funding. Amazon stated that BLM Global Network Foundation would be among 12 groups that would get a total of $10 million. Gatorade announced the group would be one of several receiving part of its $500,000 donation. Microsoft Corp stated that it would be donating $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter Foundation. Airbnb pledged to split $500,000 between the NAACP and Black Lives Matter Foundation. Unilever is giving $350,000 to the BLM Global Network Foundation. Nabisco is donating $500,000 to the NAACP and to the BLM Global Network Foundation. Dropbox CEO pledged $500,000 to Black Lives Matter, as well as a match of employee donations.
Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), a coalition organization of BLM is a member, calls for abolishing all police and prisons, as well as a socialist restructuring of tax codes for the radical redistribution of wealth. It would seem to be against the interest of large, money-making corporations to support the Marxist or socialist dismantling of the American economic system. NBC contacted several Fortune 500 companies who expressed support for BLM, including Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Bank of America, Chase Bank, Citigroup and Google, none of whom said they were in favor of defunding the police. And yet, they donated money to a group who has that as one of its objectives.
The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) platform is outlined in the paper “A Vision for Black Lives: Policy Demands for Black Power, Freedom and Justice.” M4BL demand “the retroactive decriminalization, immediate release, and record expungement of all drug-related offenses and prostitution, and reparations for the devastating impact of the ‘war on drugs’ and criminalization of prostitution.” The M4BL website states that “We believe in transformation and a radical realignment of power.” They also said that they believe “black people will never achieve liberation under the current global racialized capitalist system.”
Support from Democrats
Attorney General William Barr said of BLM, “Their tactics are fascistic.” He also accused the left of “tearing down the system.” He went on to call BLM a revolutionary group intent on socialism and communism. “They’re essentially Bolsheviks,” he concluded. The Democrats, however, see BLM in a different light. Democracy for America (DFA), which was founded by former Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean, issued a statement supporting both Black Lives Matter and The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL).
Democrat Representative Maxine Waters publicly stated her support for BLM. She told reports, “I believe that these young people in the streets are truly creating change.” She also said, “I want to thank Black Lives Matter: uncompromising, disruptive, energetic, and dedicated to undoing police killings and abuse…no justice, no peace!” While we all support equal rights, freedoms, and recourse to the law for all people, the terms “disruptive” and “no peace” sound very much like she is encouraging the rioting and looting. Democrat congresswoman Ayanna Pressley is more vocal in her support of the violence. She called rioters and looters who destroyed downtowns of cities across the nation “peaceful protesters.” On national TV, she declared, “Communities from Boston to Portland are rising up” and called for “unrest in the streets.”
Those who criticize the US system say that it was built by conservatives and Republican politicians funded by corporations. It is ironic that the American system is now being destroyed by socialists and Democrat politicians funded by corporations.
