Remembering What Made the Nation Great
At a time in the not-too-far-distant past, most Americans would have proudly said that they stood united together to fight for the country. Today, that phrase could be changed to read, “United We Stood.” As I read a post on Facebook today, I was drawn in by a discussion between an 80-year-old man and a young woman. The senior recounted that he was very disappointed in the path his country was taking. He explained that, in his opinion, today’s children are spoiled, entitled brats.
He went on to relate that he grew up during World War II and noted how difficult life was back then and the amount of sacrifice that was required. But what really struck me was when he said “We never attacked our President”. That got me thinking. Throughout our history, Americans have always been able to pull together as one nation. We put our petty differences aside and did what was best for our country.
I never lived through a world war, thank God, but I am old enough to remember the attack on our country on September 11, 2001. I remember Mayor Rudy Giuliani standing alongside President George W. Bush, as every American rallied around them. Republicans and Democrats alike pulled together to make sure we would not only survive the attack but thrive from it. Patriotism was at an all time high, and we were, at least for a while, one nation.
So why is the party-not-currently-in-power not following the traditions that have served us so well in the past? The answer is easy! Hatred. Pure unadulterated hatred. Although fiercely loved by at least half the country, Donald Trump may well be the most hated man in American history. Hated more than Charles Manson, a murderous maniac. Even more hated than Benedict Arnold, who sold out his country for coin and fame. Why do they hate him so much?
What Changed?
Before Donald Trump became president he was a celebrity. Hollywood used to fawn over him. They called him “The Donald”. Watch this clip of Trump appearing on the View in 2011. He walked in to a standing ovation and proceeded to greet all the women, many who now despise him, with a big hug and a kiss. Even Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.
So why did they love him so much back then but loathe him today? What changed between then and now? It certainly wasn’t Trump. He is just as loud, boisterous and brash as he was back then. Donald Trump is the same man today as he was back then.
This brings me back to my point. Why do they hate him so much? I can answer that question in one word. Power. It’s that simple, he took away their power. The Democrats were on their way to transforming this country into their utopian vision for America. It started with the election of Barack Obama, and was to be handed over to Hillary Clinton. But that didn’t happen.
Historical Upset
In 2016, the unthinkable happened. An outsider, with no political experience, ran for President and won. He won against all expectations. In the weeks leading up to the 2016 election, Hillary Cliunton was ahead in the polls by 14 points. It was pretty much a forgone conclusion she would win, and win big. When the Democrats realized what had happened, they went nuts! They immediately cried foul. They said they blamed Russia. Hour after hour they reported the wild conspiracy theory that Donald Trump had joined forces with the Russian government.
They claimed he was, indeed, taking orders from Putin himself. They labeled him a traitor in no uncertain words and without a single bit of evidence. Former high ranking officials from the Obama administration relentlessly appeared on cable news stations, telling us it was very possible Trump had colluded with Russia to steal the election. It was an easy line to sell. Democrats couldn’t believe Trump could beat Hillary without cheating. And thereafter, Democrats engaged in behavior meant to tear down the presidency while Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) chanted, “Impeach 45”! Democrats had even tried to convince electoral voters not to cast their vote for Trump, something unheard of in the past.
The Attack on General Michael Flynn
As if that wasn’t enough, the FBI then entrapped Trump’s pick for National Security Director. Lieutenant General Michael Flynn was tricked into admitting to lying to the FBI for doing exactly what incoming Security Directors do. Flynn had asked the Russian Diplomat not to retaliate for the sanctions put upon them by the outgoing Obama administration.
They used the information to get then US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to appoint a special counsel to look into possible ties between Russia and the Trump campaign. Again, they did this without evidence. We know this because in June of 2017, just a few months after the appointment of the special counsel, the Congressional Republicans issued subpoenas to question former President Obama’s top staff members regarding evidence of collusion they might have witnessed. They all testified that none of them had seen any evidence of collusion.
This unwarranted, possibly illegal, investigation tore our country apart for two and a half years. At its conclusion, it was found that no American citizen had colluded with any Russian official. However, those investigating the collusion had known there was no collusion from the beginning. They used it to hamstring Trump’s agenda and conveniently keep it going through the 2018 mid-term election, which gave the House back to the Democrats. They wasted no time in flexing their power with endless investigations that led nowhere.
When Robert Mueller finally gave his report, the Democrats announced they were going to start impeachment hearings because of a conversation between Trump and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. President Trump had spoken with Zelensky, suggesting he look into possible corruption in 2016, mentioning he had heard Joe Biden may have been involved in some shady business in his country. Democrats used Trump’s conversation as the basis for an impeachment for withholding aid to the Ukraine. Shortly after, this was followed by his acquittal in the U.S. Senate.
Enter Covid-19
This brings us to January of 2020. While the Democrats were wasting our time with a meaningless impeachment, China allegedly released the deadly virus known as Covid 19. The year 2020 is an election year, and unfortunately for the country, instead of pulling together as one to defeat the virus, the Democrats decided to use the crisis to attack President Trump. Throwing salt on the wound, so to speak.
Some may say this situation is dissimilar to the 9/11 tragedy. Back then they could say we were attacked by a foreign enemy. Yet, isn’t that exactly what we are going through now? The Chinese government’s claim that it was an accident makes it no less of an attack! Approximately 3000 people died on September 11, 2001. Today’s deaths are around 150,000.
One can only imagine how much stronger we would be today if we stood up to the enemy as one. Rather than act to strengthen the nation, Democrats are using this crisis to score political points. Democrat governors are doing everything they can to slow down the recovery of our economy because Democrats know President Trump was on his way to reelection, mainly due to his success in the handling of the economy.
By suppressing the economy and attacking every move Trump has made during this crisis, they exploit it rather than help. They, then, sit on the sidelines and complain, offering no helpful solutions because they don’t want Trump to get credit for anything that might help his reelection. How sad is it that they would rather let the county suffer than see Trump get re-elected!
As if all that wasn’t enough, following the death of George Floyd, the left began protesting police violence. That turned in the rioting that continues to this day. As they chanted “Defund the police” a surge in crime like we haven’t seen in decades occurred. So, what’s next on the Democrats agenda? I’m afraid to ask. Maybe we should just all take a lesson from the old man and remember what made this country great.
