What went on at the Trump Tower meeting, June 2016? Was it a Trump-Russia setup by the opposition? You decide…
On June 16, 2015, then billionaire and real estate mogul Donald Trump, along with his beautiful wife Melania made the famous ride down the escalator to announce his run for the presidency. It was a pivotal point in American history as this was a man who had no political background prior to his announcement.
Many laughed it off and assumed Donald Trump fell into boredom, assuming he’d soon drop out of the race. Little did they know he would forever change the political landscape of America, seemingly overnight.
Donald Trump Became a Threat
Millions of Americans jumped on the “Trump Train” and were more ready to “Make America Great Again” with President Trump at the helm. His message resonated among weary, feeling-forgotten Americans who were tired of the status quo.
In the months after his announcement, his popularity began to soar, and political pundits from the mainstream media panicked. It appeared that Donald Trump would have a fair shot at becoming president of the United States.
Hindsight is 20/20. At the time, most Americans didn’t know what the higher echelons of power, the opposing forces, were up to. In fact, they took it so seriously that they formulated a plot to bring Trump down should he ever get close to winning. The attacks were brutal, and they were swift. Still, facing the onslaught, in November 2016 Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States.
The Trump-Russia Collusion Story Was Born
Breaking to the surface, once Trump won, the plot to take him down revolved around Russia and the supposed collusion between the Trump team and the Russian Federation. President Donald Trump, at the request of Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, fired FBI Director James Comey for his failure in the Hillary Clinton email scandal. This action was met with fierce opposition by many on the Left and the demand for a special counsel was approved, naming former head of the FBI Robert Mueller.
Donald Trump Jr. remains front and center of the controversy because of an email he received by a British music publisher named Rob Goldstone. Lee Smith of RealClearInvestigations wrote:
“A lingering mystery of the Trump Tower meeting is the man who helped arrange it, British music publicist Rob Goldstone. On June 3, he emailed Donald Trump Jr. with an offer originating in a meeting in the office of the prosecutor general—Veslenitskaya’s point of contact with the Kremlin. Goldstone promised, “official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.”
Trump Jr. promptly responded: “If it’s what you say I love it.”
The meeting arrangements were made by Fusion GPS, and it appears to be a setup. It should be noted that the meeting only lasted about five minutes. The meeting was not as it was claimed to be and then Donald Trump Jr. left.
Lee Smith cites that the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 is still cited as “evidence” behind “Russia collusion” claims. “The June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between high-ranking members of the Republican presidential campaign staff and a Russian lawyer with Kremlin ties remains the cornerstone of claims that Donald Trump colluded with Russia to steal the election.”
In the article, Lee Smith goes on to explain the connection to Fusion GPS:
“They reveal that then-Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr, the fourth-highest-ranking official at DOJ, coordinated before, during and after the election with Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson, who did work for the Clinton campaign and Russians; and former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, who was employed by Simpson.”
Supposedly Donald Trump had ties to a Russian businessman, Oleg Deripaska, a Russian aluminum magnate who is close to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Who is Veselnitskaya? The Devil’s in the Details
The story takes a fascinating turn as the next person enters into the equation – Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. Natalia happens to be tied with Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson. He stated that she had met with him before and after the meeting at the Trump Tower on June 9, 2016.
According to Lee Smith: “‘Simpson approached the Clinton campaign through its law firm and said he could dig up dirt on Trump and Russia,’ said one congressional investigator. ‘The difference between the Trump and Clinton campaigns’ willingness to take dirt on its opponent is that the Clintons went through with it and paid for it. While their source, Glenn Simpson, was working for a Russian oligarch’ — a reference to the Katsyv connection.”
“The culmination of their combined efforts, the 35-page dossier of unverified Trump/Russia connections, was used by the FBI to secure a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. The Department of Justice did not respond to RealClearInvestigations’ requests for comment, nor did Glenn Simpson’s lawyer, Joshua Levy.”
This leaves many questions surrounding the special counsel investigation of the matter. It seems that the evidence falls more heavily on the side of the Clinton campaign rather than the Trump campaign. It begs the question as to why this “Witch Hunt,” as the President calls it, still hasn’t been properly looked in to.
The players in this collusion is vast and broad and they all point to one source, Hillary Clinton herself. With nearly a million dollars spent on a phony 35-page dossier, a former British Intelligence officer and a Russian lawyer, one has to wonder why Robert Mueller and his special counsel are not investigating the Clinton campaign instead.
Evidence of Collusion or Setup?
To date, there has been no evidence that President Trump nor any of his campaign personnel colluded with Russia. Many Americans are weary of the daily mantra “Russia, Russia, Russia.” The claims of collusion continue to fall apart as more evidence is being produced, showing no collusion on the part of the Trump campaign. Was the “Trump-Russia,” Trump Tower Meeting a setup? America will decide. Put your theories in the comments.
