FISC Releases Declassified Summary of Report
On January 23 of this year, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) released a summary of an investigation. The conclusion was that at least two of four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants that were issued do not pass legal muster. The Judge found that there was insufficient evidence to show Page was a foreign agent, a condition needing to be met. This comes after Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) asserted that the evidence met “rigorous” standards. He even chided Republicans for questioning it.
Partisan posturing aside, there appear to be no consequences yet for the FBI in submitting the applications. Nor to the FISA court itself for not doing proper confirmations and authorizing the warrants. Both these entities should not be on one side or the other of a national election ideally, but it seems that has occurred. Past Directors of the FBI that signed off on these bogus warrants were McCabe, Rosenstein and Comey.
“Today’s unprecedented court filing represents another step on the road to recovery for America’s deeply damaged judicial system.”
Carter Page, former Trump campaign adviser
The assessment that the report focused on was only for two of the four warrants. The DoJ did not want to go on record commenting about the legality of the other two. This suggests that they are not confident of their validity, either. It is not the extent of the problems found by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz. Omissions and errors were found in abundance, even at least one case of falsification of evidence. This undermines any pretense that the so-called “Dossier” put forth of Trump actions in Russia had any truth to it at all.
