X users corrected platform owner Elon Musk on Friday when he attempted to claim his social media site values free speech “just as much” as video platform Rumble, which people pointed out unlike X still hosts Infowars founder Alex Jones.
The reaction from users came as Musk expressed disappointment towards embattled actor and commentator Russell Brand’s decision following his YouTube demonitization to direct users to his Rumble channel, rather than use X, which Musk said “has supported free speech just as much.”
Numerous users refuted Musk’s free speech claims by citing as an example the permanent ban of radio host Alex Jones, who has a channel on Rumble, in addition to a recent partnership with Rumble creator Steven Crowder.
Alex Jones is on @rumblevideo.
He’s still banned on X. @elonmusk
Tommy Robinson is on @rumblevideo.
He’s still banned on X.
Please bring them back to X.

Ummm, Alex Jones is allowed on Rumble – so, not really the same.

Alex Jones and Camelot331 aren’t free here. Sorry but this response is ratio worthy.

@rumblevideo has better than X. Example: Owen Shroyer is still denied his account while a fake account @OwenShroyers is verified, misleads people regularly, defames him daily, and X does nothing about it.

dude ppl are getting banned left and right on this platform. you obviously don’t pay attention to it now but its ridiculous. ppl are still throttled even while paying for this app . Alex Jones is still banned.

Musk had expressed support for Brand’s free speech last week as news of his sexual assault allegations broke, saying, “No more canceling. Enough is enough.”
The moment appears to be nearing when Musk will have to reconcile his purported “free speech absolutism” with the fact that he’s keeping Alex Jones and others from having a voice on his platform.
