A passenger plane was abandoned on a taxiway after sustaining serious damage during a violent landing at a California airport this week, according to reports.

The harrowing incident unfolded at around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday night at John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

An Alaskan Airlines flight arriving from Seattle during Tropical Storm Hilary suffered a mechanical malfunction while touching down, sending already-concerned fliers into a panic, ABC7 reports.

One passenger uploaded footage of the “crash” on YouTube.

“Why are we going so fast?” multiple people can be heard asking as the Boeing 737 descends toward the runway.

“Brace! Brace!” one man can be heard warning as the plane slams into the pavement and sparks start flying from an area near the wing.

Passengers can be heard screaming and apparently hyperventilating as the aircraft slows down.

“As we were making the final approach everything kept shaking,” Abhi Amineni told CBS Los Angeles.

“Normally, this type of shaking is just normal turbulence but it normally doesn’t happen this close to the ground.”

Landing gear on the plane’s left side collapsed during touch-down and the engine made contact with the ground, the airline later confirmed.

Photographs of the extensive damage were provided to TMZ.

“The aircraft was unable to taxi to the gate due to an issue with its landing gear,” Alaskan explained in a statement.

The airline said the plane was left “parked on a taxiway,” where it reportedly remained as of Monday night.

No one injuries were reported at the time, according the Orange County Fire Authority.
