A January 6 protester known widely as “Q Anon Shaman” was released from prison this week and has reportedly been moved to a halfway house.
Jacob Chansley (AKA Jake Angeli) was set to serve 41 months behind bars at a federal prison complex after being charged with obstructing an official proceeding, but after only serving 27 months he’s apparently been moved to a “residential reentry management” facility in Phoenix, Arizona.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Chansley’s lawyer Albert S. Watkins hailed his client’s release, saying, “After serving eleven months in solitary prior to his sentence being imposed, and only 16 months of his sentence thereafter, it is appropriate this gentle and intelligent young man be permitted to move forward with the next stage of what undoubtedly will be a law abiding and enriching life.”
“I applaud the decision of the US Bureau of Prison in this regard.”
While there was no immediate explanation for Chansley’s early release, the news comes on the heels of an exposé by Tucker Carlson just weeks ago, where the Fox News host showed surveillance footage of Chansley outfitted with his trademark horned coyote-fur hat being escorted around the Congress building on Jan. 6 by uniformed Capitol police officers.
In the wake of the damning footage, Tesla/Twitter CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter demanding Chansley’s release, saying, “Chansley was falsely portrayed in the media as a violent criminal who tried to overthrow the state and who urged others to commit violence. But here he is urging people to be peaceful and go home.”
