Former President Donald Trump indicated he’s willing to be imprisoned if that’s what it takes to preserve his right to free speech, even in the face of court-mandated gag orders.

While addressing a rally in Clive, Iowa on Monday, Trump criticized a gag order imposed earlier in the day by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan restricting him from criticizing prosecutors and court staff in his federal January 6th election interference case.

“A judge gave a gag order today. Did you hear that? On speech, which I believe is totally unconstitutional what she did,” Trump said.

“A judge gave a gag order. A judge doesn’t like me too much. Her whole life is not liking me. But she gave a gag order. You know what a gag order is? You can’t speak badly about your opponent.”

The 45th president went on to accuse the Biden administration of using the courts to interfere with his candidacy, declaring, “This is weaponry all being done because Joe Biden is losing the election and losing very, very badly to all of us in the polls. He’s losing badly.”

However, Trump indicated if push comes to shove he would call the courts’ bluff and is willing to be thrown in the slammer if need be.

“What they don’t understand is that I am willing to go to jail if that’s what it takes for our country to win and become a democracy again. Thank you very much.”

Is Biden the ultimate embarrassment to our country?

The New York Post explains Trump is also under a gag order in his New York fraud case being overseen by Judge Arthur Engoron:

Trump, 77, is under partial gag orders in two of the five main court cases against him (four criminal and one civil).

In this fraud case, Judge Arthur Engoron issued the limited gag order on Oct. 3 — the second day of trial — after Trump made a personal attack on the judge’s chief law clerk, Allison Greenfield, in a since-deleted Truth Social post. The ex-president is barred specifically from publicly disparaging Greenfield or other court staff.

Indeed, a U.S. president being arrested and jailed for violating a gag order could certainly act as a wake-up call for people who value free speech and may serve as a catalyst that galvanizes voters ahead of the 2024 election.
