CV NEWS FEED // Democratic candidate for president Robert F. Kennedy announced that he will challenge President Joe Biden for the White House as an Independent.
“I’m here to declare myself an Independent candidate for President of the United States,” Kennedy told a crowd in Philadelphia on Monday. “But that’s not all, I’m here to join you and make a new Declaration of Independence for our entire nation.”
Kennedy, 69, denounced the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the corporate media in the stirring speech. “We declare independence from the corporations that have hijacked our government,” he said.
The two major parties, the media, and corporate interests work together to get citizens to “hate” each other, Kennedy said. He presented himself as a leader that could restore unity, and with it freedom from the “scam” that divides Americans.
In an op-ed published by FOX News, Kennedy made the case that his Independent run comes at the right time.
“On October 9, we are turning a new page in American politics,” he wrote. “There have been independent candidates before. But this time is different. This time, the Independent is going to win.”
Reuters released a poll last week showing that an Independent Kennedy would stand at 14% against Former President Donald Trump’s 40%, leaving Biden at 38% heading into the 2024 contest. If Kennedy can maintain or improve on that number, his candidacy will majorly shake up the race.
“The two major parties are fielding candidates that most Americans do not want even to run,” Kennedy wrote in his op-ed:
A shocking three-fourths of Americans believe President Biden is too old to govern effectively. President Trump faces multiple civil and criminal trials. Both have favorability ratings deep in negative territory.
That is what two-party politics has come to, and that is why we need to break the stranglehold of the two parties. And that’s why we need to pry loose the hammerlock of corrupt power over Washington, D.C.
We are going to make this nation ours again.
