Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland claimed Wednesday that he hadn’t “seen” any anti-Israel comments from fellow Democrats in the House of Representatives.
“We’re absolutely unified behind Israel’s right to exist and Israel’s right to defend itself,” Raskin told an unidentified reporter in an interview that aired on CSPAN. “And we’ll be standing strong with Israel.” The reporter asked Raskin about statements from fellow Democrats, including Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts which called for “de-escalation” on the part of Israel in the immediate aftermath of the Saturday attack by Hamas that has killed over 1,000 people, including at least 22 Americans.

“I haven’t seen any of those,” Raskin claimed. “And all that I’ve heard is a very powerful consensus that we need to stand by Israel as it defends itself.”
Tlaib and Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota have made additional anti-Israel comments in the past, with Tlaib holding an event in a Senate hearing room that called the founding of Israel a “catastrophe” in May after then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy blocked Tlaib from holding the event in the Capitol building.
“I am determined as ever to fight for a just future where everyone can live in peace, without fear and true freedom, equal rights and human dignity,” Tlaib said in a statement. “The path to that future must include lifting the blockade, ending the occupation and dismantling the apartheid system.”
“As part of a just and lasting peace, we must do our part to stop this violence and trauma by ending U.S. government support for Israeli military occupation and apartheid,” Democratic Rep. Cori Bush said in a statement posted on Twitter.
Tlaib also invoked apartheid when discussing Israel in 2021 and 2022 posts on Twitter, while Omar claimed that Israel “hypnotized the world” in a 2012 tweet that has since been deleted. The House of Representatives removed Omar from the House Foreign Relations Committee by a 218-211 vote on Feb. 2, citing her history of anti-Semitism.
Raskin did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
