A male suspect was charged with first-degree murder following a vicious attack on a police officer at a Florida airport this week, according to reports.

The shocking incident unfolded on Tuesday at Orlando International Airport.

Authorities were summoned to the Spirit Airlines ticket counter after being alerted about a “large group of people who were becoming aggressive” with staff and entering employee space behind the desk, Fox 35 reports, citing an arrest affidavit.

Edward Hariston, 41, was reportedly arguing with a Spirit agent when he began smashing a computer keyboard, prompting an officer to intervene.

During an ensuing scuffle, Hariston gained the upper hand and began choking the officer.

Footage shot by a witness has been circulating on social media.

“We both fell onto the ground and Hariston put one of his arms around my neck in a chokehold and began to squeeze, restricting my airway, making it unable for me to breathe,” the officer explained in the arrest report.

“I began to get dizzy and immediately spotty, as my airflow was restricted, and I was beginning to lose consciousness.” 

More officers arrived and Hariston was taken into custody.

He now faces a slew of charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, and disorderly conduct.
