Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that his office was “working swiftly” to pardon Sgt. Daniel Berry, who was convicted of murder for killing a BLM protester in self-defense.

“I am working as swiftly as Texas law allows regarding the pardon of Sgt. Perry,” Abbott tweeted Saturday.

“I have made that request and instructed the board to expedite its review,” he said, adding that pardons in Texas must be recommended by the Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Perry was convicted of murder on Friday for shooting and killing Garrett Foster, who had raised an AK-47 rifle toward Perry when he was shot.

Austin Police claimed Perry acted in self-defense.

This comes amid reports the lead detective in Perry’s case filed an affidavit claiming Travis County District Attorney José Garza had him remove over 100 pages of exculpatory evidence that the grand jury never had an opportunity to see.

“I firmly believe the District Attorney’s Office, acting under the authority of Jose P. Garza, tampered with me as a witness,” David Fugitt wrote.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also put out a statement claiming Perry’s conviction has “shown us how rogue prosecutors have weaponized the judicial system.”

“Self-defense is a God-given right, not a crime,” Paxton told Fox News on Saturday. “Unfortunately, the Soros-backed DA in Travis County cares more about the radical agenda of dangerous Antifa and BLM mobs than justice.”
