A CNN panel didn’t respond positively to the substance of the 34-count indictment release by the Manhattan DA’s office against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
CNN’s “The Lead” anchor Jake Tapper asked former counsel to the U.S. Assistant Attorney General Carrie Cordero if the charges were what she expected or if she was “unimpressed.”
“It it was I thought it was gonna be in terms of focusing on the payments that were made, the falsification of the records really tied to the payment that was made to Stormy Daniels,” Cordero said.

“In terms of a case that’s being brought against a former president — it’s a little underwhelming,” she admitted.
“There’s not more to it,” she went on. “There’s not more violations, tax violations, there’s not an incredible new set of facts that we didn’t know about publicly, it’s really- the facts of this case as they have existed for basically almost seven years.”
These reactions from CNN come in stark contrast to the network’s initially celebratory atmosphere as Trump entered the courthouse while the indictment was still sealed.
Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records, which carries a maximum sentence of 136 years in prison.
The 45th president is scheduled to deliver remarks from his Mar-a-Lago resort Tuesday evening at 7:00pm CST.
