Stanford University announced over the weekend that it was launching an investigation into a report from a Jewish student that someone had written an antisemitic message on their dorm room door, according to a letter from the university.

A Jewish student reported the incident last week to the university officials after discovering swastikas and an “image of Adolf Hitler” drawn on a whiteboard attached to their dorm room door, according to the letter. University officials responded Saturday evening by informing the campus community that it was looking into the incident due to concerns that the individual responsible was trying to “intimidate” the Jewish student.

“We are writing today with the deeply disturbing news that multiple swastikas and an image of Adolf Hitler were found on a whiteboard affixed to a Florence Moore Hall dormitory room door,” the letter read. “The Stanford University Department of Public Safety is investigating the matter and believes the incident could be a crime given that a resident of the room identifies as Jewish and the location of the swastikas may have been selected to intimidate the occupant.”

The letter, signed by Vice Provost for Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole, Vice Provost for Institutional Equity, Access & Community Patrick Dunkley, Campus Rabbi and Associate Dean for Religious & Spiritual Life Laurie Hahn Tapper and Dean for Religious & Spiritual Life Tiffany Steinwert, noted that the most recent incident was not the first antisemiticproblem the school has suffered but noted that the “brazen threat to an individual student” compelled the university to respond more forcefully. Anyone with information about the person responsible is directed by the letter to contact Stanford’s Department of Public Safety.

Jewish students were also directed to get in touch with the local Hillel and Chabad groups at Stanford, according to the letter. University officials also said that the Jewish Advisory Committee, announced in October 2022, would officially launch soon as the school’s task force against antisemitism.

“We wish to be clear: Stanford wholeheartedly rejects antisemitism, racism, hatred, and associated symbols, which are reprehensible and will not be tolerated,” the letter said. “Our goals this evening are to share what we know about this and recent incidents, make it clear that we reject these acts of hate, offer help to those in need, and ask for your help as we investigate the FloMo incident in particular.”

Stanford did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
