Law enforcement in Oklahoma confiscated large quantities of methamphetamine and deadly amounts of fentanyl in a recent search, the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) announced.

The TPD, federal partners and the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department collaborated in an operation that seized more than 130 kilograms of methamphetamine and fentanyl totaling 347 grams, or about 173,500 dosage units, the TPD said Wednesday. The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department has jurisdiction in the Muscogee (Creek) Native American Nation.

“Excellent work by TPD personnel and our Law Enforcement partners,” the TPD declared. A department representative told the Daily Caller News Foundation that 347 grams of fentanyl added up to 173,500 doses based on Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) information.

Consuming just two milligrams of fentanyl can kill an individual depending on how much they weigh, their tolerance level and their history of usage, according to the DEA. An estimated 71,238 people died from synthetic opioid overdoses nationwide in 2021, a more than 20% increase compared to the previous year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

The fentanyl epidemic is not limited to civilians. Overdoses from the drug killed 54 American military service members in 2021, more than twice the death toll in 2017, according to Defense Department statistics reported by the DCNF.

The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
