Four men were shot and killed in two different incidents on Sunday, according to a press conference from Washington, D.C., police.

The first double shooting happened around 1:20 p.m. inside of a residence in the southeast quadrant, according to a D.C. press conference. Two hours later, a second double homicide was reported in the northeast quadrant.

“We believe that this particular event is targeted, in that the two individuals were standing out in front of the courtyard,” said D.C. Assistant Police Chief Andre Wright about the first incident. “Obviously we’re following up with cameras as well, and as soon as we can get any images, we’ll put them out to you all as soon as we possibly can,” he said.

Police responded to a residence on the 3300 block of D Street SE around 1:20 p.m. When they arrived, they found two men unconscious in the home; they were pronounced dead on the scene, according to the press conference.

A weapon was confiscated at the scene and a person of interest was apprehended hours later, Wright said.

The second double homicide occurred around 3:45 pm, when police responded to the 5200 block of Sheriff Road NE after reports of a shooting. The men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are looking for a blue SUV that was seen leaving the scene after the shooting, but other than that they have no leads on who committed the second double homicide. Wright noted that D.C. police have no reason to think that the two double homicides were related.

“We are not about to turn over our freedoms or safety, or the safety of our loved ones that we love over to a few bad actors that feel they can do what they want to,” said Wright.
