The man suspected of fatally shooting two people and injuring a third Monday in New York City was out of prison on parole, according to ABC 7.

Sundance Oliver, 28, was taken into custody Tuesday morning after the shootings of three people in three incidents Monday, the New York Police Department announced. Oliver was released from Seneca County state prison on parole in July 2020 and has previously been arrested 12 times for offenses including robbery, menacing and criminal weapon possession, ABC 7 reported.

Oliver is suspected to have non-fatally hit one man during an incident in which he tried to rob a woman Monday morning, shot and killed another man that afternoon and fatally shot a female in the evening, New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell indicated. He surrendered to police after a manhunt and large-scale NYPD Level 3 mobilization, according to ABC 7.

The NYPD announced after Oliver’s apprehension that there were no outstanding suspects in the case and the investigation was ongoing.

The shootings were the latest in an ongoing saga of violent crime in New York City. The city saw 20% more murders in November 2022 than during the same month the previous year, while while reported burglaries and grand larcenies decreased by about roughly 6% and 5.5%, respectively, based on preliminary police statistics.

The NYPD did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
