A Democratic strategist said Wednesday that former President Donald Trump’s third presidential campaign is “advantageous” for her party following the 2022 midterm elections.
“As a Democrat, I do think it’s advantageous for us if Trump runs, because Trump doesn’t need to learn lessons from the midterm in order to get the nomination and I think he will continue the way that he is without those lessons,” Democratic strategist Sarah Norman told “Your World” guest host Charles Payne. “And, you know, as a person, this is the rerun that no one wants to watch, a Biden versus Trump campaign, but I do think this will hurt the GOP just as he hurt them in the midterms.”
Republican candidates endorsed by former President Donald Trump lost during midterm elections where GOP expectations of a “red wave” nationally failed to materialize. Multiple prominent Trump endorsees who lost in the general election included Senate nominees Adam Laxalt of Nevada, Blake Masters of Arizona and Mehmet Oz of Pennsylvania, while gubernatorial nominees Kari Lake of Arizona and Doug Mastriano of Pennsylvania also failed to defeat their Democratic opponents.
Democrats promoted candidates endorsed by Trump in a successful effort to secure easier victories in the general election. One such candidate, John Gibbs, defeated Republican Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan, who voted to impeach former President Trump, was promoted with hundreds of thousands of dollars in the primary by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee before losing in the general election.

“The question is can former President Trump remain disciplined throughout that long primary season. Every primary season is a fight, of course this is going to be that. Trump has quite a track record of launching sometimes foul attacks. We’ll see how disciplined he is,” Kelsey Bolar of the Independent Women’s Forum said earlier in the segment.
“Of course, he was more disciplined than usual last night, but it’s early and there are a number of other highly qualified potential candidates that will jump in and give him a tough run for this fight and at the end of the day, we’re coming off the heels of an unimpressive midterm elections for the GOP where Trump-endorsed candidates didn’t perform as well as they should have,” Bolar continued. “Voters are going to hold Trump accountable for that. He has to be able to win independents in order to win a presidential election and I think voters will be looking at whether he can do that.”
Trump announced his third presidential campaign Tuesday night at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida estate he owns.
“Our country needs a truly great leader, and we need a truly great leader now. We need a leader that wrote ‘The Art of the Deal,’” Trump said during his announcement speech. “We need a leader that can bring back our jobs, can bring back our manufacturing, can bring back our military, take care of our Vets.”
Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman announced he would not back the former president in the primaries, saying “It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries.”
Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
