A Huge Push for Biden to Replace Harris as Border Czar by Over 20 GOP Lawmakers
Posted On June 18, 2021
Over 20 Republican lawmakers are calling on Joe Biden to replace Kamala Harris as the official tasked with addressing the migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
In an explosive letter made public, the lawmakers flat-out declared: “We write to express our serious concerns regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ appointment as your administration’s leader to solve the border crisis.”
“This figure does not even include ‘got aways,’ or those who sneak in without detection, with CBP officials estimate to be around 1,000 per day, compared to an average of just under 200 ‘got aways’ per day in the fiscal year 2020,” they wrote.
They went on to note that Harris was “tasked with solving this crisis on March 24, 2021” and claimed that she “has not yet shown adequate interest in observing this crisis first-hand.”‘
“In the 85 days since the Vice President has been tasked with solving this crisis, she has yet to visit the border and meet with Border Patrol agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, and local law enforcement officials,” the letter added. The GOP lawmakers said Harris has done nothing but “made excuses about her role in solving the crisis,” by “claiming that her responsibility is to examine the root causes of migration.”
“Harris wrongly presumes that ‘root causes’ of migration can only stem from a migrant’s country of origin. Even if we assume that ‘root causes’ only stem from a migrant’s country of origin, the exclusive focus on Central American countries ignores the fact that we see many migrants attempting to illegally cross our southern border from countries all over the world.”
“Perhaps if the Vice President took a moment to speak with our Border Patrol agents who are on the frontlines of this crisis, or even the thousands of migrants currently held in our border facilities, she and your administration would be able to grasp this reality,” they added.
Finally, the lawmakers said, “This country cannot afford another minute of inaction from Vice President Harris. While you have publicly defended the Vice President, even you must be discouraged with her inaction. We have all made mistakes in hiring and understand when someone else needs to be assigned to a task. We sincerely urge you to find someone else in your administration to assist you in getting a handle on this border crisis.”
Biden announced on March 24 that Harris would lead the administration’s efforts at the border, and she has not visited one time to even hold a press event on the crisis.
Harris is 100% appointed to “handle” the border crisis and she has not visited the border one time since Biden named her.
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich recently took aim at Harris and said she has failed to respond to his invitation to tour the crisis at the US-Mexico border.
“I guess if you were a philosopher you would say no response is a very loud response because we’ve not received any response,” Brnovich said.
Harris needs to “look into the eyes of people being smuggled across the border, being exploited by the cartels and realize this is a humanitarian crisis on so many levels,” Brnovich said.
Days after Biden appointed Harris to oversee his administration’s border responses, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, called her “the worst possible choice.”
He accused Harris of being someone who has “completely trivialized the issue by putting someone in charge who flat out just doesn’t care.”
Also, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, predicted that Harris “is not going to be able to solve this crisis” after he and 17 other GOP senators visited the border in his home state, adding that the migrant crisis has become Biden’s “biggest political mess.”
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich says the only reason that Harris was put in charge of the border crisis was that everyone knows “she wouldn’t do anything” about it.”
