When people think of scintillating political commentary, the name of comedian/actor Tom Arnold may show up on one’s mental list just after a starfish (but way before Kathy Griffin). This is mostly because, from a pure intelligence standpoint, Mr. Arnold operates on a more “pull my finger” intellectual level. While it’s true that MENSA would probably spontaneously combust before calling Mr. Arnold a member, it is also true Tom’s biggest problem is not the self-evident lack of synaptic firepower, but rather mental illness.

Self-proclaimed, Mentally Ill “Comedian”

While Tom admits to a history of mental illness, his recent behavior suggests that despite what he claims, his current issues are far from being under control. Looking at what he says and how he behaves, it is pretty clear that a narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) diagnosis is a real possibility. The definition of this condition from the American Psychiatric Association’s “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition” states that it “comprises of a persistent manner of grandiosity, a continuous desire for admiration, along with a lack of empathy.” Exhibiting five of nine total symptoms results in a positive diagnosis. Tom Arnold rings the bell on all nine of them.

Breaking Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Symptom by Symptom

Ready for a breakdown of Tom Arnold? Here it is, alongside all nine symptoms of the American Psychiatric Association’s narcissistic personality disorder:

1. “A grandiose logic of self-importance.” and 2. “A fixation with fantasies of infinite success, control, brilliance, beauty, or idyllic love.”

To call Tom Arnold a “B-list” actor is an insult to the other B-list actors on the list. His one alleged claim to eternal fame is convincing Roseanne Barr that he was some sort of sexual Godzilla. With that said, this marital Hollywood footnote of a man claims he is going to take down a sitting president. While simply delusional on its face, this hasn’t stopped him from making the schoolyard bully type claims. Surely, he could not successfully take on the writer of this article in a thumb wrestling contest without sustaining life threatening injuries, let alone President Trump. This hasn’t stopped him from making such claims.

A couple days ago, Arnold released the trailer for his new show on Viceland Network, Part of Arnold’s delusional fantasy is that he is in possession of tapes confirming President Trump is every bit the racist the Left claims. While proclaiming he has these tapes, he also professes he will not release them because he is protecting the lives and careers of those who provided him with the information. Thus, people must take his word for it.

This allows him to place himself in the roles of both “hero” and “defender of the innocent”. This is a fantasy that any kid who grew up on Avenger and X-Men comics can understand. Most adults grow out of childhood fantasies when taking on more reasonable roles such as “Middle Manager” or “Mom” or “Dad”. Unfortunately, adult Tom still clings to his childish fantasy life like a dehydrated man lost in the desert chasing a mirage. It is really more sad than funny.

3. “A desire for unwarranted admiration.”

Tom chases down any camera he can find to tell them he is going to end the Trump Presidency which would make him greatly admired by Trump haters.

4. “A sense of entitlement.”

Tom, like most on the Left, is acting out mostly because he believed that the 2016 election was exclusive property and was thereby stolen. The Trump win, while unexpected by anyone who did not know how to read the internals of media polls, upset a little applecart and the owners refuse to accept it. Tom Arnold’s political tantrums finds its base in the idea that the White House belongs to people who think like he does.

5. “No form of empathy.”

Tom Arnold has threatened to hang out at Barron Trump’s school and harass the twelve-year-old child because he does not like the president’s politics. First of all, hovering around places where 7th grade kids gather is usually something people with ankle monitors on their leg and NAMBLA cards in their wallets do. Maybe the membership cards Tom is carrying need to be checked. That notwithstanding, Barron is not the only child this bully has threatened to stalk. Similar threats have been made against the children of other Trump supporters. Tom having no problem with the idea of intimidating kids, regardless of how it may make the child feel, shows a complete lack of empathy.

6. “Interpersonally oppressive behavior.”

Tom apparently enjoys being oppressive, so long as the person he is oppressing is a child, a woman or anyone who is not likely to kick his ass. His former wife, Roseanne, claimed that he was verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive during their marriage. This claim is reinforced by his own actions. Arnold recently gave actress, Kristy Swanson, a “final warning” regarding her support for Trump. This is consistent with a guy who will happily terrorize pre-teens.

7. “Resentment of others or a conviction that others are resentful of him or her.”

Reading any of the insane volume of tweets and statements Tom has made about Trump and supporters leads to only two conclusions: First, this man has way too much time on his hands and needs a hobby that preferably does not involve women or children. Second, his differences with Trump supporters goes way beyond the political and shows clear resentment. It is deeply personal to him. He routinely refers to supporters of the president as “racists” and has openly said he does not “give a shit” about the people who voted for Trump. He reflexively hates and dismisses millions of people he’s never met or interacted with based only on their voting decision. If he did this based on a person’s race or gender there would an “ism” and a stigma attached to it.

8. “A display of egotistical and conceited behaviors or attitudes.”

Believing a feckless beta-male, such as himself, can take down an entire government should be enough to qualify him as egotistical. Tom goes a bit farther. While it is pretty clear that he has a rather profound NPD, he has turned his mental illness into an ego booster.

During a speech in Omaha, Nebraska discussing his mental illness problems before an audience of other victims of mental illness, he made the statement that he needs them at least as much as they need him.

While it makes sense that somebody suffering from any personal turmoil would need a support group, rarely does someone declare to a group of strangers they somehow “need” him. At best, that is presumptuous and at worst a little “Jonestown” type of icky.

9. “A credence that he or she is extraordinary and exceptional and can only be understood by, or should connect with, other extraordinary or important people or institutions.”

As unlikely as it seems, Tom Arnold believes he is better than a lot of people. In his mind, he is among the smart ones, the special ones, the elite celebrity. He has taken on an enforcer role of sorts for the industry. That is why he threatened actress Kristy Swanson who dared to break from the rest of Hollywood and think for herself. Along with James Woods, she is no longer on the extraordinary level that Tom believes himself to be on.

In reality, Tom Arnold is about as rare or special as a cubic zirconia. This truth does not keep him from spreading guano and placing himself on a pedestal — over such Trump voter blocks as military members and cops who shunned Hillary.
