Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
The American dream is the foundation of the world’s greatest superpower and the freest democracy in the world. It begins with the Declaration of Independence, signed in 1776. It states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The Unalienable Right to Life
The unalienable right to life is not afforded to unborn babies. Pro-choice is an argument championed by the left and in 1973, they succeeded in legalizing abortion. Abortion was passed into law, not by constitutional amendment or through Congress, but through the unelected Supreme Court.
Companies, such as Planned Parenthood, are part of a multi-million dollar abortion industry. Last year, they carried out 328,348 abortions and made a $77 million dollar profit.
New Right Network’s Tony Parton wrote an informative piece on what happens during the procedure. He explains why the word Fetus is merely a de-humanization tactic to make the process more palatable.
Mr. Parton says: “It is [called] a fetus to remove the emotive word baby, changing it to a colder sounding, long-dead, foreign word and making it easier to deny it is life.” Babies have a heartbeat from around six weeks in utero and have fingerprints from approximately 12 weeks. Fingerprints are unique to every individual, so much that they can even place one at the scene of a crime. The fact that there are fingerprints suggests this is not an empty vessel. It is a unique life, never to be repeated. We spend billions of dollars attempting to find life on Mars. If we discovered something akin to the complexity of a fetus, NASA would not claim to have found “the potential for life”, they would celebrate the discovery of life itself. Sadly, there is no American Dream for these babies.
The Unalienable Right to Liberty
Liberty is never assured and comes under constant attack. Two of the three world superpowers are not democracies. China is a communist nation that will possibly become the largest economy in the world. Their record on personal freedom and human rights is appalling. Russia is a state-capitalist gangster-oligopoly. Neither are free and democratic states or role models on how we should live our lives.
The threat is not just external. Leftists that resent their personal life choices blame capitalism for their failures. They look to alternative systems for the solution to their problems. The left and their anti-capitalist, socialist ideology believe the state knows better than the people and the free market. If left to reach its natural endpoint, it will result in communism. Their obsession with collective identity, especially collective-victimhood, is a key indicator of this.
Some believe this is already a possibility. Groups, such as Antifa, find their roots in communism. This violent street movement is a reminder that communism has never been implemented peacefully.
The left is attacking our way of life on three fronts: culture, the right to bear arms and free speech. Karl Marx wrote their playbook with, “A people without a heritage are easily persuaded.”
It is why the left use the authoritarian tyranny of so-called political correctness not just to stifle debate, but to seek to destroy American heritage.
Nothing Is Sacred
They target statues and monuments. They attack the education system, so you do not learn about your past. They censor traditional media, books, and programming. In just one recent example, the First Lady sent a collection of Dr. Seuss books to one school in every state. A school in Cambridge, Massachusetts rejected them, claiming “Dr. Seuss is a bit of a cliché, a tired and worn ambassador for children’s literature,” and that “Dr. Seuss’ illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes.”
It is shameful that these comments come from an institution in the state where Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) was born.
The Constant Attack on Our Right to Bear Arms
The second battle is with the constitutional right to bear arms. The second amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Banning guns would leave the United States defenseless against tyranny. With groups like Antifa and Islamic extremists on the rise, the left wants to leave you vulnerable so you will concede even more liberty for the sake of safety provided by the government.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Free speech is a right which protects all other liberties. The tyranny of left-wing political correctness and de-platforming aims to curb free speech. They regularly shut down conservative voices in the workplace, on campus and online. Antifa regularly targets polemicists such as Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson at their events, simply because they are conservatives and they disagree with their views. Employees, such as James Damore, are fired for stating scientific facts.
It is becoming increasingly common for conservatives to be censored online, especially on social platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Google. Google is known to collaborate with left-wing groups, such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, to censor conservative content.
We are in the midst of serious culture war. The left wants to destroy your culture, shut you up and disarm you to prevent rebellion.
The Pursuit of Happiness
The pursuit of happiness is the definition of the American dream. It is why numerous people made the journey in the 19th century, from places like Ireland and Italy, to emigrate to America and build a new life for themselves. It was the American dream that made America.
America has always been, as Professor Jordan Peterson calls it, “A hierarchy of competence.” It is a country where the only limitation is that which you place on yourself. America is full of self-made millionaires and billionaires. Capitalism has brought more people out of extreme poverty than any other system. Worldwide poverty declined by 80% from 1970 to 2006. It was attributed to free trade and entrepreneurship.
The left is obsessed, not with equality of opportunity, but with equality of outcome. Controlling the outcome robs Americans of the pursuit of happiness. It suggests the left knows what happiness is for each and every individual and they can implement it for you. Their ideology is based on the belief that Government could answer all of America’s challenges and make everyone happy, if only it were given enough power to do so.
It is this kind of leftist idealism that led to communism, fascism, and Nazism. They forget that the pursuit of happiness is actually through small government and individuality, not through big government and collectivism. To effectively counter the left, conservatives need to revive the American dream. They need to promote the success of capitalism and expose leftist, socialist policy in all its absurdity. They need to ensure that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are available to every American so that it remains the land of the free and the home of the brave.
