An Eritrean migrant was stabbed to death by a suspect from his homeland in Switzerland this week, according to reports.

The shocking incident unfolded shortly before midnight on Tuesday in Solothurn, capital of the canton of Solothurn.

Two men became embroiled in a dispute on the Kreuzackerquai, a street along the River Aare.

During the confrontation, the younger man drew a blade and knifed his fellow countryman, who died on the spot a short time later.

The suspect was apprehended nearby and taken into custody.

He was identified as a 23-year-old Eritrean national.

The victim, 33, was also identified as a citizen of the East African nation.

“He stabbed him for no reason,” a social worker, also from Eritrea, told local media.

Yet another Eritrean man says he was attacked by the perpetrator when he tried to intervene.

“It was very dangerous,” he said. “He hit me once or twice. The third time I grabbed his hand and wanted to separate the two. But he also hit me several times.”

A homicide investigation is ongoing.

“Hardly a day goes by without a stabbing! This time in Solothurn: Eritreans allegedly stabbed a compatriot,” the Swiss People’s Party (SVP) wrote on social media.

“Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (SP): Finally stop this bloody asylum chaos!”

Last month, an Algerian man was arrested for stabbing an Afghan migrant at a train station in Buchs, a city in eastern Switzerland.
