Harriet Hageman is projected to win Wyoming’s congressional seat, according to the Associated Press.
Hageman won the GOP nomination for Wyoming’s sole House seat with a landslide primary win over incumbent Liz Cheney, who fell out of favor with fellow Republicans because of her support for Trump’s second impeachment and her role on the House panel investigating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Hageman previously placed third in the 2018 primary for governor.
Democratic nominee and Native American activist Lynnette Grey Bull, Hageman’s opponent Tuesday, lost to Cheney in 2020.
A lawyer, Hageman, 60, has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming and got her law degree from the University of Wyoming College of Law. She was a law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Hageman cast herself as a staunch defender of the U.S. Constitution, saying the Left has “unleashed an onslaught on our Constitution” and that she would “work every day to block the liberals’ efforts to destroy our constitutional republic.”
Hageman is pro-life and has said abortion “will one day be remembered as a grave stain on American history.” She is a critic of the entrenched administrative state, saying that she “fought regulators and bureaucrats in court; now I will do it in Congress.”
In a speech September at The Heritage Foundation, Hageman said, “The Biden administration is a constitutional disaster the likes of which we have not seen before.” (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.)
