Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry accused Democratic Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz of “aiding and abetting” an illegal immigrant rapist that targeted a constituent by supporting “amnesty” for those who cross the U.S. borders illegally, during a House Subcommittee on National Security, the Border and Foreign Affairs hearing on Tuesday.
The subcommittee hearing, which was titled “Help Wanted: Law Enforcement Staffing Challenges at the Border, focused on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General Joseph Cuffari’s findings about tanking morale among agency personnel stationed along the southern border. During the hearing, Moskowitz raised concerns about a case of rape committed by an illegal immigrant against one of his constituents.
“I have folks back home who were raped by their nanny. She spent 20 years in jail in Florida, and all the family wanted to know is that when she was released, what was going to happen. That’s it. She was a victim, she had a right to know and I had even on her behalf made connections with Homeland[DHS] on this issue,” Moskowitz said.
“We were told, ‘don’t worry, we will make sure the family knows if she’s deported or if we’re keeping her whatever the story is.’ Guess what, none of it happened. The rapist was deported. Nobody knows what happened to her, she’s not flagged in the system. Now that family, the girl who’s now a mother of two has to be worried about where her rapist is,” Moskowitz said.
Cuffari responded that he was aware of the situation. “Congressman let me first say that you and I did have a discussion about the individual who was convicted of rape,” Cuffari said. “And we discussed the Crime Victim’s Rights Act and the prosecutor should have complied with that I hope that that information was hopeful that I supplied to you.”
“Well, that’s a whole other issue because quite frankly the rapist had more rights than the victim,” Moskowitz responded.
WATCH:
During Perry’s questioning time at the hearing, the Republican congressman blamed Democrats for “aiding and abetting” the rapist by supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants through “comprehensive immigration reform.”
“Comprehensive immigration reform, as decried by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, is generally known, and perceived rightly so as amnesty for breaking America’s laws, therefore, that they lament the fact that we’re not we’re not interested in allowing people that come across our border illegally bringing fentanyl, engaged in human trafficking, gang activity, we’re not interested in providing amnesty for their lawlessness. So, no, there’s not going to be comprehensive immigration reform because that’s what it includes. They support that lawlessness, and so it’s rich for him to come in and complain on her behalf when he and his party have been aiding and abetting it for years upon years,” Perry said.
