CV NEWS FEED // Catholics and fellow Christians from across California will gather outside Dodger Stadium on Friday to protest the team’s giving of an award to an anti-Catholic hate group.

A coalition of Christians, including CatholicVote, will participate in the protest against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who plan to give the Community Hero Award to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (SPI), a group of cross-dressing men that mocks the Catholic faith. The group’s motto is “Go and Sin Some More!”

The protest is scheduled for 3:00-7:00 PM in Dodger Stadium’s Parking Lot 13. The Los Angeles Police Department has assured organizers police will be present to ensure the protest is secure.

The event will include speakers, prayers, worship, and a procession led by Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas. Protestors are encouraged to maintain a mindset of prayer and reparation for the abuse against Christianity perpetrated by the SPI.

“We expect this to be a beautiful contrast of prayer and peace outside while hatred and bigotry are being exhibited inside the stadium,” said Tommy Valentine, director of the Catholic Accountability Project.

“We encourage all Catholics in California to come be a peaceful witness against anti-Christian bigotry by the Dodgers,” he said. “They need to see the people who are so hurt by this award, and we need to show them love in return.”

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco expressed support for the rally in an interview with LifeSite News:

While the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is not affiliated with the rally, Archbishop José H. Gomez will offer a Friday Mass in the cathedral and lead the Litany of the Sacred Heart in reparation for offenses against Christ and his Mother.

Archbishop Gomez joined the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in an official June 12 statement calling on Catholics to pray the Litany on Friday. As reported by CatholicVote:

By making this statement, the USCCB added their official voice to a growing chorus of bishops who have already spoken out against the SPI and the Dodgers’ decision to give the anti-Catholic hate group a “Community Hero Award” during the team’s “Pride Night.”
