The upcoming Adeodatus Inaugural conference strives to continue the renewal of Catholic education and culture for future generations.
Adeodatus is a non-profit organization focused on supporting the revival of Catholic liberal arts education.
June 2023 marks the first of a three-year series of conferences on the “Ongoing Renewal of Catholic Education and Culture.” The conference in June will focus on the major sources of Catholic liberal education and celebrate the key figures in its renewal in America over recent decades. Adeodatus hopes to be a bond of connection between the renewal that has already happened and future efforts to continue that renewal.
The conference will be held in beautiful Pasadena, CA, from June 21 to 24. Each day will begin with Mass at Saint Andrew Church, one of the sacred art and architecture treasures of Southern California.
The closing Mass will mark the Los Angeles premiere of Frank La Rocca’s Mass of the Americas. The Mass is a tribute to Our Lady under her titles of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe. It includes the first-ever hymn to Mary written in Nahautl, the Aztec language Our Lady spoke to St. Juan Diego (the “Aue Maria”).
The conference schedule is full of a wide variety of presentations.
Speakers include Chesterton Society President Dale Alquist, creator and host of EWTN’s series “G.K. Chesterton: The Apostle of Common Sense” and publisher of Gilbert Magazine.
Speaking on St. Ignatius of Loyola & the Ratio Studiorum is Father Micheal Spitzer, S.J., president of the Magis Center and the Spitzer Center. He was the president of Gonzaga University from 1998 to 2009, where he significantly increased their programs and curricula in faith, ethics, service, and leadership. He currently appears on EWTN weekly in the “Father Spitzer’s Universe” show.
Margarita Mooney Clayton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Practical Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary and the foundress and executive director of the Scala Foundation. She will be speaking on Catholic philosopher Jacques Maritain and Italian priest and educator Luigi Guissani. Mooney Clayton has written several books and speaks at venues including Yale University, Harvard Law School, and Columbia University.
Also featured in this conference is author, artist, and iconographer David Clayton. He will present a demonstration on icons to help raise funds for the creation of a Catholic Sacred Arts Academy in Los Angeles.
The conference is funded and supported in part by the Cardinal Newman Society, Sophia Institute Press, Thomas Aquinas College, and the John Paul the Great Institute.
Adeodatus is offering a variety of discounts for educators, students, and friends who wish to attend the conference. It will also be available to stream digitally for both individuals and schools.
