Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton decried media’s response to a report that he left his home when a man tried to subpoena him for a case regarding pro-abortion groups seeking to fund out-of-state procedures.
Pro-abortion parties, including Fund Texas Choice and The Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity, filed a lawsuit against Paxton and other state officials Aug. 23 challenging any criminal prosecutions against them for funding legal out-of-state abortions. Process server Ernesto Martin Herrera said he tried to serve Paxton a subpoena by hand at his home, but Paxton and his wife got into separate cars that drove away, according to Herrera’s affidavit.
Paxton allegedly “fled his home to avoid being served with a subpoena,” according to the affidavit.
“This is a ridiculous waste of time and the media should be ashamed of themselves,” Paxton tweeted in response to the Tribune’s report. All across the country, conservatives have faced threats to their safety — many threats that received scant coverage or condemnation from the mainstream media.”

“It’s clear that the media wants to drum up another controversy involving my work as Attorney General, so they’re attacking me for having the audacity to avoid a stranger lingering outside my home and showing concern about the safety and well-being of my family,” he added.
Texas law banning abortion beyond cases where the mother’s life is at risk became effective Aug. 25.
