Many stores are having Christmas in July events. This is also true of some churches who are celebrating the greatest gift ever given to mankind in July. One such service was held on Sunday, June 24th at the First Baptist Church in Sarasota, Florida.
Pastor John Cross began his sermon saying that the Bible tells us that the first Christmas tree may have been the cross upon which Jesus was crucified. This is the first time we have heard this and decided to look at what the Holy Bible says because it is the Word of God.
We decided to look at Bible passages that contain the word “tree.” Here are five passages with tree in them:
Acts 5:30: “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.”
Acts 10:39: “And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:”
Acts 13:29: “And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.”
Galatians 3:13: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”
1 Peter 2:24: “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
A tree is made of wood, so too was the cross upon which Jesus was crucified and then died upon.
As we celebrate Christmas in July, let is never forget who gave us the gift of Christmas and who shed His blood to wipe away all of our sins.
And let us not forget that so long as we believe in Him we shall have life everlasting with God the Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
