A new Times Square billboard is mocking Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for pushing Americans to buy expensive electric cars to avoid high gas prices on Friday.

A billboard reading “ELITE PETE SAYS, ‘LET THEM DRIVE ELECTRIC CARS’” was put up in the heart of New York City by the small business advocacy group Job Creators Network (JCN). The display comes following the Transportation Secretary’s comments suggesting that high gas prices would drive Americans to buy costly electric vehicles in a hearing on Tuesday.

“The more pain we are all experiencing from the high price of gas, the more benefit there is for those who can access electric vehicles,” Buttigieg said in response to a question about the soaring gas prices that Americans are facing.

The billboard also features a photo of Buttigieg with a royal crown and scepter accompanied by the headline: “PAIN AT THE PUMP?”

Gas prices across the nation remain high at $4.41 per gallon, according to AAA, amid the Biden administration’s aggressive climate agenda and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Meanwhile, the average price of a new electric car is roughly $60,000, according to Kelly Blue Book.

“Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is belittling the problem as a mere inconvenience that can be avoided by simply buying an electric car,” said JCN President and CEO Alfredo Ortiz in a statement Friday.

“Perhaps Elite Pete should get off his throne to experience how the average American lives,” Ortiz concluded.

The Department of Transportation and JCN did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
