Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a resolution Thursday to censure “Squad” member Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan for “antisemitic activity” following the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel.
Tlaib has repeated Hamas’ claim that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, and it took the congresswoman five days to condemn the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks. Greene cited an Oct. 18 anti-Israel protest at the U.S. Capitol that followed Tlaib’s speech in which she sobbed over Hamas’ hospital bombing claim, as well as previous actions and statements, for her reasoning to censure the congresswoman, according to its text.
“I just introduced my resolution to censure Rashida Tlaib as privileged to force a House vote in two legislative days,” Greene wrote in a tweet. “Tlaib led a pro-Hamas insurrection into the Capitol complex, has repeatedly displayed her anti-Semitic beliefs, and shown her hatred for Israel. She must be held accountable and censured.
Tlaib and fellow “Squad” members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Cori Bush of Missouri, along with several other Democrats, voted against the House’s resolution Wednesday to support Israel and condemn the Hamas terrorist attacks.
Tlaib released a statement Monday doubling down on the debunked claim that an Israel airstrike killed nearly 500 people at the hospital in Gaza. The congresswoman has yet to delete her initial tweet addressing the bombing.
“Media outlets and third-party analysts have raised doubts about claims and evidence offered by both Israel and the Gaza Ministry of Health, and I agree with the United Nations that an independent investigation is necessary,” Tlaib wrote in the statement. “I cannot uncritically accept Israel’s denials of responsibility as fact, especially in light of confirmation from the World Health Organization that Israel has bombed numerous medical facilities in Gaza and reports from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society of ongoing threats from the Israeli military to evacuate hospitals.”
The U.S. received “high confidence” intelligence that Israel was not responsible for the bombing, and that the incident was instead caused by a Palestinian Islamic Jihad misfire.
Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania criticized his Democratic colleagues in the House for jumping to the conclusion that Israel was responsible for the bombing, calling it “truly disturbing.”
Tlaib did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
