Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, intends to consensually gather substantial amounts of personal data from premium users to enhance security, including “biometric information,” using its updated privacy policy, the company told Bloomberg.
This data collection will serve as extra identity verification and help prevent impersonation as well as increase security on the platform, X told Bloomberg. The new privacy policy, which will go into effect at the end of September, does not define the term “biometric” or go into any detail on it, but the term often refers to data from facial features and fingerprints.
“Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes,” the new policy states.
NEWS: X has updated its privacy policy to specify that X may collect biometric data (eg face, eyes and fingerprints).
This is likely tied to efforts to improve security and ID verification.

Furthermore, X plans to obtain and make use of the education and job history of its users, according to the policy.
“We may collect and use your personal information (such as your employment history, educational history, employment preferences, skills and abilities, job search activity and engagement, and so on) to recommend potential jobs for you, to share with potential employers when you apply for a job, to enable employers to find potential candidates, and to show you more relevant advertising,” according to the updated privacy policy.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s project WorldCoin uses the term “biometric” to refer to data gained through an orb that scans eyeballs and issues a digital passport. Moreover, TikTok, a popular video platform owned by Beijing-based ByteDance and linked to the Chinese Communist Party, also collects biometric data in the form of “faceprints and voiceprints,” according to its privacy policy.
X did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
