A Texas sheriff is calling for criminal charges involving Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ flights of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, the Bexar County Sheriff’s office said in a statement Monday evening.
Bexar county sheriff Javier Salazar is reccomending that the district attorney’s office , the sheriff’s office told the Miami Herald. Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is currently seeking the GOP ticket in the 2024 presidential election, sent two planes of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in September.
“The case filed includes both felony and misdemeanor charges of Unlawful Restraint,” the statement read. “At this time, the case is being reviewed by the DA’s office. Once an update is available, it will be provided to the public.”
The Martha’s Vineyard flights drew backlash from Salazar, who swiftly opened an investigation into allegations that the migrants were “lured” into taking the trips.
DeSantis’ office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
