US Activates Nuclear Response Team After Fire At Facility
The US Department of Energy has activated its Nuclear Response Team after a fire broke out at Ukraine’s largest nuclear facility. The fire is currently under control in the midst of a military clash between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
Early Friday morning, Russian soldiers opened fire on Europe’s largest nuclear power facility, the Zaporizhzhia plant in Enerhodar, causing a fire and raising fears of a nuclear disaster on the scale of Chernobyl.
Ukraine’s Response
“The biggest nuclear power plant in Europe is on fire right now,” according to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “Russian tanks are shooting at the nuclear blocks. These are tanks equipped with thermal imagers, so they know what they are shooting at.”
While the United States and other nations have not entered the conflict, the world is watching and waiting for new developments.
