You Interrupted Me’: Cruz and Durbin Engage in a Fierce Debate

During a difficult moment during the Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz ripped into Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat.

After going over his allotted time, Durbin sought to interrupt Cruz’s questioning of Supreme Court candidate Ketanji Brown Jackson on her record of sentencing child pornography offenders. Cruz fired back.

A Difficult Week

Throughout this week’s hearings, Republicans have questioned Jackson on her highly questionable record of handing out lighter-than-recommended sentences to pedophiles. Many senators have announced plans to vote against her confirmation, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Jackson has struggled to account for her record and, in a now-famous exchange, could not answer the question “What is a woman?”
