On Sunday a woman donning a “Let’s Go Brandon” sweatshirt was removed from the Wichita Thunder Game in Wichita, Kansas. As she remains quiet while being removed, several revelers begin chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” as she exits the stadium.
The anti-Biden meme “Let’s Go Brandon” got started on September 13, 2021 at a NASCAR race and continued at hundreds of sports stadiums across the country. Brandon Brown of the NASCAR Xfinity Series won his maiden race on Saturday, but it’s his post-race interview that had fans scratching their heads, not his driving. Fans began chanting “F— Joe Biden” as Brown was being interviewed after the race, but the NBC reporter questioning him heard something completely different.
“Oh my God, this is just everything we’ve hoped and dreamed for,” Brown said. “Everything I’ve ever wanted to do is take the trophy home to mom and dad.” The chants grew louder as he continued to thank his sponsors and loved ones.
“As you can hear the chants from the crowd — ‘Let’s go Brandon,’” the reporter said, pausing in the middle of her sentence to give the chant time to be fully heard, before asking Brown about his strategy for the race.
Many others wondered if the NBC reporter was simply trying to downplay the incident or undertake damage management at the time, given the clarity of the chanters’ audio.
Getting the chant on the radio appears to be a growing habit at sporting events around the country. The statement was chanted by sections of the crowd at four different college football games last month, according to Newsweek.
Yahoo Entertainment reports, “It could be heard during the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers game against the Kansas Jayhawks, the Alabama State Hornets match against the Auburn Tigers, a Virginia Tech game and when the Ole Miss Rebels played the Austin Peay Governors.”
