Boris Johnson Snubs President Trump

Amidst a long chorus of congratulations to Joe Biden, Boris Johnson went a step beyond that. Despite the fact that President Trump remains President, the British Prime Minister referred to President Trump as the ‘previous president.’

Johnson stated in a press conference, “I’m delighted to find the many areas in which the incoming Biden-Harris administration is able to make common cause with us.” No doubt, this is disappointing coming from a key ally.

Many world leaders have congratulated Joe Biden.

A number of others, however, have signaled they will wait till the conclusion of legal actions and recounts.

Among those who have not congratulated Biden is Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa. A handful of other world leaders have also not congratulated Biden.

It was no doubt premature to refer to President Trump as the previous president. The Trump campaign has filed lawsuits in Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. In addition, there will be a recount in Georgia.

As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo put it, “There is a process. The Constitution lays it out pretty clearly. The world should have every confidence. The world is watching what is taking place. We are going to count all the votes. When that process is complete there will be an elector selected. There’s a process.”
