Losing Our Freedoms Over Covid-19
“Facebook bans events that violate social distancing orders.” The ban appears to exclude Black Lives Matter protests, but includes protests against the lockdowns. Facebook has suspended an anti-mask group which they accused of spreading COVID-19 “misinformation.” Similar bans have come from YouTube which called the stories “fake.” Once again, have Facebook and YouTube done extensive research on masks and determined that they prevent the spread of a virus, decrease death tolls, or that they must be worn? If so, would that give them the right to ban all anti-mask papers published by health experts, doctors, and researchers? And since there are legitimate researchers on both sides of the issue, such as Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, which is against masks, lockdowns, and school closures, is it accurate to deem one side as peddling misinformation?
Center for Disease Control (CDC) interviewed those who tested positive for coronavirus in July and determined that 70% – 85% said they wore mask all the time or most of the time, while only 3.9% said they never wore a mask. Is CDC data misinformation? Are we allowed to publish this? Does Facebook get to make that decision? Thousands of doctors and health experts have now endorsed the Great Barrington Declaration, a report calling for an end to masks, lockdowns, and school closures, particularly for young people. The support for this document suggests that there are legitimate experts with opposing viewpoints and that these stories are not misinformation.
In no previous pandemic has there been a general lockdown or mandatory masking of the general public. Two of the worst epidemics in US history were the 1957-1958 flu and the 1919 Spanish Flu, and yet there were no lockdowns and no masking of the general public. Yet the Mainstream Media is now trying to rewrite history, to suggest that there were widespread lockdowns and masks as a way of making the current requirements seem normal. But on March 31, CNN reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) was still recommending against the general public masking unless they were sick or caring for someone who was. Clearly, such references could be used to build a case about the political nature of the masks and lockdowns. Will they eventually be removed from the internet to rewrite the history?
In February and March, Dr. Anthony Fauci and Surgeon General Jerome Adams were advising against the public wearing masks. In a 60-Minutes interview, Fauci actually said “there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask.” The narrative is being rewritten now, saying that they made that recommendation to avoid having a shortage of masks for healthcare workers and not because masks are ineffective. But this is inconsistent with what Fauci said in the video: “When you’re walking around in the middle of a pandemic, wearing a mask might make people feel a little better. And, it might block a little droplet but it is not providing the perfect protection.” Fauci’s statement is consistent with a February 29 tweet by the US Surgeon General, “Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS! They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!” He is quite clearly saying that masks are ineffective.
Attempts are already being made to alter the history. In a July interview, Fauci defended his earlier recommendations against wearing masks, saying the other reason he flipped his position was because, “It soon became clear that we had enough protective equipment and that cloth masks and homemade masks were as good as masks that you would buy from surgical supply stores.” Really? When did this scientific revelation happen? From the beginning, it was known that coronavirus was a SARS-like respiratory virus. In fact, most of the early literature refers to it as a SARS-like virus. There were no recommendations for masks during SARS and no data suggesting that homemade cloth masks were as effective as store bought masks. Nothing has changed about coronavirus, SARS, respiratory illness, or cloth masks, except Dr. Fauci’s position. How long will we even be allowed to have this discussion? And if we are banned from social media, where would this discussion even take place?
