August 15, 2020; BALTIMORE – Maryland veterans Christopher Anderson (U.S. Coast Guard) and Charles Anthony (U.S. Army Reserve) will show their appreciation for the sacrifices of men and women in uniform by hosting a donation drive for the city’s veterans this Saturday. The day marks the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, marking both the surrender of Japan and the end of the Second World War.

Anderson and Anthony, both Republican candidates, will join a group of Maryland veterans to present donated items to the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET), which is a nonprofit organization that for over 25 years has treated veterans with homelessness and substance abuse. The organization offers counseling, transitional and drop-in housing and other provisions such as water and clothing.

According to the 2019 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report, veterans accounted for 13.5% of all deaths by suicide. This is amongst US adults. With economic disparity, homelessness and severance from their service as related factors being considered. MCVET tackles one component of the spectrum of issues facing Baltimore’s vulnerable veterans.

“As a proud Baltimorean and veteran, I recognize the need to come together to help all in need, but including the men and women who gave to this country. Participating in this drive is the least I can do to show my support.”

Chris Anderson, Vet Candidate for Baltimore City Council District 7

“Thanking my fellow veterans for their service and sacrifice is best done by extending them a supportive hand when they need it the most. Today’s donation is just one part of my ongoing commitment to helping my fellow veterans”

Charles Anthony, Retired Lt Colonel, US Army Reserve and candidate for Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District.
