Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Continues to Make Anti-Semitic Remarks
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been under fire for her antisemitic remarks. Omar tweeted in 2012 “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” However, her anti-semitic remarks have not only been in the past.
President Donald Trump also took to Twitter to call out Omar.
As recently as this year, Omar has tweeted anti-semitic tropes. She responded to a tweet from Glenn Greenwald about America’s defense of Israel saying “It’s all about the benjamins baby.” Furthermore, Omar was implying that that politicians were being paid to support Israel. This was confirmed when she was asked who she thought was paying off the politicians and she replied “AIPAC!”
However, these now deleted tweets have brought bipartisan scrutiny on the freshman Congresswoman. For example, Congressman Max Rose (D-NY), a Jewish Democrat representing the 11th district of New
Omar Calls Jewish Stephen Miller a “White Nationalist”
Omar has publicly “apologized” and claims to have been unaware that her remarks would have been offensive. However, even after garnering support from known white supremacists David Duke, Omar called Jewish White House Advisor Stephen Miller a “white nationalist” on Twitter.
Stephen Miller is not the first Jewish-American to come under attack from Omar. Omar has singled out several other people including Jared Kushner and Elliot Abrams. Her disdain for the Jewish people and Israel as a whole is evident. Accordingly, Omar’s “apology” is meaningless if she continues to make anti-semitic remarks. As the first Somali-American woman to be elected to Congress, her goal should be to unite, not further divide. Likewise, this sentiment is echoed with constitutes in Minnesota.
President Trump Calls Omar Out on Twitter
President Donald Trump also took to Twitter to call out Omar. In a tweet on April 9th, the President quoted Jeff Ballabon, referring to Omar’s targeting of Jewish people as “unacceptable.” President Trump has been a strong supporter of Israel and the Jewish community. For example, in 2017 President Trump recognized Jeruselum as the capital of Israel and approved moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jeruselum.
Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, also shows respect and gratitude for President Trump’s support of one of our biggest allies in the Middle East. On April 8th, Netanyahu tweeted his support of President Trump for recognizing the Islamic Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. In short, it is important to continue to foster good relations with our ally, Israel and denounce any Ant-Semitic remarks. Voters in Minnesota must take note of Congresswoman Ilhan Omars divisive and abhorrent rhetoric and vote accordingly in 2020.
