President Trump recently ordered the Carter Page FISA application and text messages between key FBI/DOJ officials declassified and released to the public. True to administrative state form, a strategic leak was expected to mitigate the damage sunlight will do to the Russia narrative and the reputations of many in those agencies.

Strategic leaking has now begun, and it came in the form of a New York Times article, “Rosenstein Suggested Secretly Recording Trump and Discussed 25th Amendment” published on September 21, 2018, by Adam Goldman. Notably, almost all administrative state leaks are leaked to the New York Times and occasionally the Washington Post.

The article largely makes excuses for Rod Rosenstein’s behavior, or at least for his state of mind.

“Mr. Rosenstein was just two weeks into his job. He had begun overseeing the Russia investigation and played a key role in the president’s dismissal of Mr. Comey by writing a memo critical of his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation. But Mr. Rosenstein was caught off guard when Mr. Trump cited the memo in the firing, and he began telling people that he feared he had been used”

However, they are outing him as an enemy of the President.

“Mr. Rosenstein made the remarks about secretly recording Mr. Trump and about the 25th Amendment in meetings and conversations with other Justice Department and F.B.I. officials. Several people described the episodes, insisting on anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The people were briefed either on the events themselves or on memos written by F.B.I. officials, including Andrew G. McCabe, then the acting bureau director, that documented Mr. Rosenstein’s actions and comments.”

Enlisting Sessions?

The article further claims that Rod Rosenstein told McCabe that he might be able to get Jeff Sessions on board for a 25th Amendment process against the President. Rod Rosenstein released a statement that the New York Times article was not true, although many consider his denials to be overly broad and thus believe there is some truth to the story. Rosenstein didn’t say directly that he never discussed recording the President, just that he did not record the President.

He did not say he never discussed the 25th Amendment as a means to removing the President, but “there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.” As with all New York Times articles, we must take this with a grain of salt. However, it is making for interesting speculation with regard to the President’s tweets on the same morning of the New York Times article.

Is Biden the ultimate embarrassment to our country?

I met with the DOJ concerning the declassification of various UNREDACTED documents. They agreed to release them but stated that so doing may have a perceived negative impact on the Russia probe. Also, key Allies’ called to ask not to release. Therefore, the Inspector General…..

….has been asked to review these documents on an expedited basis. I believe he will move quickly on this (and hopefully other things which he is looking at). In the end I can always declassify if it proves necessary. Speed is very important to me – and everyone!

Rife With Speculation

Some are speculating that the New York Times articles author is Andrew McCabe “burning down the house” since he is facing a grand jury. Others believe Andrew McCabe is laying a trap for Donald Trump – fire Rod Rosenstein, and get impeached.

There is also speculation that President Trump met with the DOJ and made a deal in which the President does not release the most damaging of the declassified documents (i.e., documents that pertain to Australia and the UK participating in the spying operation, and others exposing the depth of the FBI/DOJ corruption) in exchange for an end to the Mueller investigation. “Speed is important” as his tweet emphasized. In any case, the next 45 days until the midterm election this November promise to be no less riveting than the past two years.
